In 2015 I was Artist-in-Residence at Katmai National Park and I did a lot of drawings, I filled two sketchbooks and then did water colors while on the boat when I was out there there along the coast. This is just one of the watercolors that I did of this scene from Amalik Bay then here is the small study a 16" x 20" oil study, then here is the finished painting. #katmainationalpark #alaskapaintings

Art and Science on the Katmai Coast Art Show traveling exhibit is Opening on March 1st, with be available to view through March 29th.
If you are in Ketchikan, Alaska or will be in March, be sure to stop by the Main Street Gallery to see Katmai Coast traveling exhibit. I will be at the opening on March 1st and would love to meet you! This month I have been exploring the ice and riding bikes around my home town Cordova, Alaska looking for more glacial landscapes to sketch, then later to paint.
"Right here I am painting these four related scenes they are surf paintings. I like to say I am just learning how to do this, so what I so is do a bunch of studies together and I work on one and if something works on one, I go to the other and work on the others. It is a great way to learn, which is what I am doing here." |
